About This Site

Visualizing.JP introduces practical methods, examples, and research related to data visualization.
It also covers adjacent topics such as open data, open government, data journalism, big data, and data science.

As Ben Fry wrote in Visualizing Data, the field spans statistics, data mining, graphic design, information visualization, information design, coding, and the web. This site takes an incremental approach: each topic is narrowed down into a small unit, and those units are accumulated over time.

To move people through data visualization, readers need to feel that the subject connects to them. The site therefore treats storytelling methods alongside technical points.
